The European Sustainable Energy Innovation Alliance (ESEIA) highlighted PhotoniX and The Cyprus Institute for securing an EIC Pathfinder grant. The feature recognizes the project’s ambition to develop solar-powered mid-infrared fiber lasers and its contribution to European solar energy and photonics innovation.

PhotoniX had a strong presence at the 26th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON 2026), held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 12–16 July 2026.
Prof. Kypros Milidonis and Prof. Bryce Richards were invited speakers, delivering two presentations on solar-powered lasers. Their talks highlighted recent advances in the development of laser technologies powered directly by solar energy, demonstrating their potential for sustainable fiber laser systems.
Notably, this marked the first time that solar-powered lasers were presented at an ICTON conference, representing an important milestone in bringing this emerging research area to the optical networking community and showcasing PhotoniX’s pioneering contributions to sustainable photonic technologies.
